Rev. Al Lopez
Rev. Al Lopez is the founder and one of three co-pastors of UrbanMission, a new church in Pomona, California, affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). UrbanMission’s unique, network-building, and entrepreneurial approach to new church planting empowered the fledgling congregation to create UrbanMission Community Partners, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation, in which he serves as President and CEO. Together, these two organizations make up The UrbanMission, a spiritual enterprise dedicated to addressing the challenges that affect the residents of south Pomona and beyond. The UrbanMission’s approach to being an actively engaged spiritual community has garnered recognition in several academic circles; most recently being highlighted as an example in Rev. Dr. Timothy Murphy’s Counter-Imperial Churching for a Planetary Gospel. Al is passionate about exploring creative solutions that bridge the gap between scarcity and abundance – The UrbanMission’s NEXT Initiative is the incubating space in which this passion and the potential for financial sustainability meet. Al holds an M.Div. degree from Claremont School of Theology and is a certified Professional Coach in training under the auspices of the International Coach Federation.
