Shamā Mehtā was born in India and now calls southeastern Michigan home. A lifelong practicing Hindu, Shamā is a board-certified chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains and currently works as a hospital chaplain. She has a Master’s in Pastoral Ministry with a focus on Interfaith Chaplaincy. She is also a Qualified Bilingual Medical Interpreter.
Shama is the vice-chair of the newly formed North American Hindu Chaplains Association and is heavily involved in local interfaith organization. Her passion lies in creating safe spaces at the intersection of provision of spiritual care and innovation that allow for reflection and empowerment. She is also working to spread awareness about chaplaincy in the Hindu diaspora.
